LEOPARD CUBS
Dog As Foster Mother (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 10. Two week-old leopard cubs at the Auckland Zoo are alive today only through efforts of the custodian at the S.P.C.A. Kennels, Mr A. H. Gillies, Mrs Gillies, and their daughter, Joyce, and the cooperation of Robin, an Alsatian bitch from the kennels, which filled the role of foster mother.
Triplet cubs were born last week. The mother showed no maternal instinct at all and immediate arrangements had to be made to provide for them.
The weakest cub died, but the other two are in fine fettle.
Just more than a year ago, the leopard parents, Basil and Heidi, deserted another cub, and this one, Kim, was adopted by Kathie, a household cat at the zoo. Last November Kim went to the Melbourne Zoo.
