TROTTING Anterior Picked For Sprint At Washdyke
If Anterior has held the form which earned her an impressive victory at Rangiora last month, she should prove difficult to match in the Taiko Handicap, the principal event for sprinters on the first day of the Timaru Trotting Club’s summer meeting at Washdyke today.
Anterior, which is trained at Springston by J. H. Winter, jnr., is one of five last start winners in the field. The others are Dominica, Toby Brigade, Spring Garrison and Wee Mike.
Perhaps, the beat of these will be Sp»in< Gamson, which finished boldly for Four-year-old Stakes honours at Addington on New Year’s Dey. Before his win. Spring Garrison had been second in four of his seven previous races this season.
Dominica gained a runaway win on a heavy track at Ashbarton on Boxing day. But on the roomy track there he had time to recover from a slow start and ran 12 furlongs out very well
Toby Brigade was successful as a two-miler ait Hutt Park last month and Wee Mike ended a disappointing run of unplaced performances with a sprint win ait Rangiora on December 15.
But for regular consistency none has a better record than Blonde Piper. He has been unplaced only once in seven starts this season, was the runner-up to the capable Chief Omar over a sprint distance M Rangiora the last time he raced, and was successful over 13 furlongs at Waimate at his previous attempt. Other important races on today’s programme will be the John Hole Memorial Handicap and the Kerrytown Handicap. The TA..B. double will operate on these two events and a popular combination will be Aiblins and Monopat There will be a double for course patrons only on the Levels Handicaps Noe. 1 and
There was heavy rain in South Canterbury on Thursday night, but the weather cleared again yesterday. Although the sting will be out of the ground, the track is expected to be in good order. Helds are:— FIRST LEG ON-COURSB DOUBLC n FIRST LBVBU HANDICAP, <300; 4:11 class; Um.
