Removing Spark Plugs

Most overhead valve engines have the spark plugs placed at an angle in the cylinder head. During removal with a box spanner, the plug insulators are liable to be broken if the spanner is not located and seated properly.

A piece of garden hose placed inside the box spanner will cover and cushion the plug insulator and hold the spanner in line. It will also help to locate the spark plug in deep recesses found in some modem engines.
