Magician Looks Fit For Trentham
Magician looks and acts as if he has thrived since he won the Dunedin Jockey Club’s Champagne Stakes. He is being prepared for racing at Trentham and the Royal meeting at Riccarton, and sprinted fast wide out on the course proper at Riccarton yesterday.
Ridden by M. J. Wildermoth, and accompanied by Zero (K. Reggett), Magician ran half a mile in 51 2-ssec.
Mr H. D. Greenwood’s smart Faux Tirage colt looks one of Riccarton’s brightest prospects for Trentham. He has no engagement on the first day, but there will be a suitable race for him on the second day. Zinder (Wildermoth) and Manana (Beck) were paired over a mile on the outside of the course proper. They finished the trial on terms in Imin 46 3-ssec, quickening for the last half in 52 2-5. Both won for Mr D. W. J. Gould. at the New Zealand Cup meeting, and both are fit for racing at Trentham. J. C. Tomkinson will take them north next Wednesday. M. J. Wildermoth will ride Zinder in he Camp Handicap on Wellington Cup day. The two-year-old Standout (Wildermoth) ran his halfmile in 52 2-ssec on the outside of the course proper. It was a smart solo trial Standout is an unraced youngster in the Tomkinson team, and shows promise. Not Hurried i Vitamise (Beck) was going nicely alongside Last Mate (Williams) finishing seven furlongs, the last four in 53 3-ssec. They worked on the' trial grass, which gave good footing after rain the day before.
Vitamise is going to Trentham, where he will run in the Telegraph Handicap on Cup day, and the George Adams Handicap. Brown Brocade (Hadfield) showed deceptive speed to run half a mile in 53 3-ssec. Golden Boy (T. Wilson) started with her, but had to be eased when some of his gear came adrift and his rider lost an iron. Brown Brocade will race
at Trentham, and will be taken north with her stablemate, Mygrid, on Tuesday. Brown Brocade damaged a fetlock joint recently, but should measure up against the hack sprinters at Trentham if she is free of the trouble by next week. Seaend (Beck) and Vault (Miss F. Kerr) hurried home from the half-mile in 51 l-ssec. Seaend has freshened nicely and may make a show as a sprinter at Trentham. Apparel (Reggett) sprinted half a mile in 53 2-ssec, time equalled later by Francisco (Mrs Clutterbuck).
