Unwanted Animals
Sir,—We read that 479 unwanted and abandoned cats and over 100 dogs have been brought to the S.P.C.A. home in Christchurch during December and from a further notice of January 3 it would seem that most of these animals have been brought there because their owners went on holiday. Perhaps the most deserving work the S.P.C.A. is doing is the maintenance of the in Sockburn as a last refuge for unwanted or ill-treated animals, and this service is financed largely by animal-lovers. Now that families are returning from their holidays it is to be hoped that when they collect their pets from the home they will make a generous contribution towards their upkeep. —Yours, etc., FAIR'S FAIR. January 9, 1963.
