U.S. And Britain
Sir,—Your leading article, “Mr Kennedy’s Atlantic Partnership,” is an able summary of toe American viewpoint on the Atlantic alliance, and as such it omits to mention toe heavy losses inflicted on Britain and toe Commonwealth by United States policies within and beyond this “alliance.” The history of toe last 25 years shows that toe United States has either remained neutral or has actively assisted the forces working against British interests at every time of crisis for Britain and the Commonwealth. American defections from the Atlantic partnership in Europe 1939-41, Palestine 1946-47, Persia 1950-52, Egypt 1955-57. and in Africa and Western Europe at the present time, all bear witness to America’s record of unreliability as an ally of the British peoples. In London recently, Sir Philip Joubert voiced the opinion of many British people when he said, “There is no-one more dangerous to the future of Britain than President Kennedy.’—Yours, etc., F.C. January 7, 1963.
