New Headmaster Of Christ’s College
A 35-year-old master at Rugby School, England, Mr Nigel Creese, has been appointed headmaster of Christ’s College. He will succeed Mr H. R. Hornsby, who will move to Hamilton in September to St. Paul’s Collegiate School. Mr Hornsby came to Christ’s College in 1951 from King’s School, Peterborough.
Mr Creese’s appointment was announced yesterday by the warden of Christ’s College, the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren. The board of governors of the college considered applications from New Zealand, Australia, Africa, India and England. Mr Creese was flown out from England and was one of three interviewed by the board yesterday. Mr Creese was born in England in 1927, and was educated at Blundell’s School, Tiverton, and Brasenoee College, Oxiford. At Blundell’s he was a school monitor, captain of swimming, and played cricket and Rugby football. At Oxford he obtained his M.A. degree in the Honours School of Literae Humaniores. atty Rugby blue in 1951 and toured with a university team through the United Kingdom, Europe and Japan. In 1057 he was player-manager of the Oxford - Cambridge team which toured East Africa and Rhodesia. He served in the RA.F. as a pilot officer in Palestine and the Middle East and is now a flight lieutenant in the Territorial Air Force.
Mr Creese’s teaching experience includes some years at Bromsgrove School, Worcestershire, and since 1955 he has been on the staff of Rugby School, where he is teaching Latin, English and scripture. He commands foe RA.F. section and is master in charge of Rugby football. Mr Creese has much experience with youth club work,
having organised youth summer camps while at Oxford. His other interests include drama, acting with local dramatic societies, and the production of school plays, gliding, sailing, climbing and most ball games. He is on the committee of the Brasenoee Society and treasurer of a private school in Rugby. Mr Creeee married in 1951 and has two sons and twp daughters. His wife is also a graduate of the University of Oxford.
