TANGANYIKA UNIONISTS

Deportations Ordered (WJSP^..-R«uter— Copyright) DAR ES SALAAM (Tanganyika), Jan. 8. President Julius Nyerere has ordered the deportation of the Tanganyika Federation of Labour president, Mr Victor Mkello, to the remote village of Siunbawanga, the Government announced yesterday. The village is in the western region of Tanganyika, near the Northern Rhodesian border. The announcement said the organising secretary of the Plantation Workers’ Union, Mr Sheshe Amirio, was also deported. It said the Government had taken action in view of evidence both men had been conducting themselves “in a manner dangerous to peace and good order."

Both had played a part in illegal strikes since new labour legislation came into force last year. They had made use of their official positions in the trade union movement to stir up opposition to the legislation, the announcement said.
