‘P.M. Of The Park’ Dies
(N.Z.P.A.-Retiter—ComiHght) LONDON, January 8. Mr Boner Thompson, whose oratory at Speakers' Comer in London’s Hyde Park, earned him the title of “Prime Minister of the Park,” died on Sunday, aged 74. Every Sunday for nearly 40 years he harangued the crowds at this traditional open air forum in the heart ot London—and they loved ’it. His rules were: "Keep ’em guessing, bait them, insult them, taunt them, badger them, and be witty.” Armed with a rich Irish brogue—he hailed from Northern Ireland Mr Thompson appointed himself London's chief open-air philosopher. His big black hat was hie symbol of “authority.”
