CINERAMA IN CITY
Plans For Mayfair
Theatre Plans are still in band for the showing of cinerama films in Christchurch. Drawings were made last year for the conversion of the Mayfair cinema to show this widest of wide-screen types of film that combines the images from three projectors. It will be several months before the cinema is altered for the installation of the projectors which have already been brought to Christchurch from Singapore. A date for the conversion work will be set when the Crystal Pajace cinema, also operated by Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., has been renovated. After improvements at this cinema the programmes normally shown by the Mayfair cinema will go to the Crystal Palace and the Mayfair will be used exclusively for cinerama films.
Eight films have so far been made in this medium. An Auckland cinema has been Showing these films for the last three years.
