TELECAST OF QUEEN IN PARLIAMENT

WELLINGTON, January 9. The first live telecast from Parliament Buildings will be made when the Queen opens Parliament on February 12. . Full broadcast coverage for the Royal tour has been planned by the Broadcasting Corporation, which has just completed a two-day conference of producers and other kew staff on arrangements. From toe arrival of the Queen on February 6 at Waitangi to her departure 12 days later from Christchurch, all stations or main-national station links will carry live commentaries or eye-witness reports on major events, including ceremonial drives. Radio newsmen will provide further material. Staff from Wellington will give special coverage of events at Napier, Nelson, and Blenheim. “Newsreel” radio programmes will, with a few
exceptions, follow 12.30 p.m. and 9 p.m. news bulletins from main national stations and 1.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. news bulletins from commercial stations. The television service will present a nightly newsreel “Royal Report” New mobile gear at Auckland. Wellington and Christchurch will be used for live telecasts of two events in each of these centres.
The first “Royal Report" newsreel will be seen from Channel 2, Auckland, at 9.30 p.m. on February 6. After that these 15-minute programmes will be screened by all four stations. Channel 3 (Christchurch) will handle the public welcome at Lancaster Park soon after noon on Saturday, February 16, and toe Queen’s departure from New Zealand at the airport two days later.
