FRONTIER TREATY
Mongolia And China
(N.Z.P A.-Reuter—Copyright) PEKING, December 25
Mr Chou En-lai, Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China, and Mr Yumzhagin Tsedenbal, Prime Minister of Outer Mongolia, today signed a treaty fixing the 2500-mile frontier between the two countries.
Outer Mongolia, once part of the Chinese empire, forms a buffer State between China and the Soviet Union. At a banquet in Peking last night. Mr Chou heard Mr Tsedenbal praise the Soviet policy of peaceful coexistence.
The Outer Mongolian leader said international disputes should be solved “exclusively by peaceful means.” But he also called the Chinese People’s Republic a “new. powerful and progressive force." Diplomatic observers saw Mr Tsedenbal’s support for Soviet policy as a clear reaffirmation of where his country stands in the differences between the Chinese and Soviet Communist Parties of handling international and ideological affairs.
