Athletics N.Z. CHOOSES SAME TEAM
Mile Belay At Nelson (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 26. The New Zealand team of milers to run against the Oregon University representatives in a four by one mile relay at Nelson on January 5 will be the same as that which competed at Auckland on December 19—W. D; Baillie, M. G. Halberg, J. L. Davies and P. G. Snell. This was stated today by Mr C. A. Blazey, a member of the management committee of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association.
It was reported from Rotorua that the university's fastest miler, D. Burleson, might not be able to compete in the rehay because his wife is expecting a child. Mr W. Bowerman, the team’s coach, said that Burleson would catch the first aeroplane home the minute he heard his wife had entered maternity hospital. For tomorrow's meeting at Smallibone Park, Rotorua, Mr Bowerman named Burleson, K. Forman and V. Reeve in the mile, in which they will meet Snell and Davies. He named A. San Romani for the handicap 880 yards and C. Steinke for the 5000 metres in which Halfberg, Baillie, N. Scott and A. B. Magee will be chasing the world record.
