Polo N.S.W. TEAM’S VISIT

Tourney May Not Be Held “Th« Press’ 1 Special Service CAMBRIDGE, Dec. 26. Because of the withdrawal of its top player, S. Hill, the New South Wales Polo Association may not enter a team in the inter-Dominion tournament to have been held at Claudelands in March. The New South Wales Association considers that its team without Hill would not be strong enough to challenge New Zealand for the Australasian Gold Cup. The refusal of shipping authorities to allow grooms to travel across the Tasman in company with the ponies for the six weeks tour is another reason advanced why the New South Wales Association does not want to send a team. Australian polo authorities have now suggested that New Zealand release the Gold Cup and allow it to be played for at Sydney in the last week of April, with the New Zealand team also to compete at the Sydney Royal Show. Queensland, which has invited an unmounted team from New Zealand, has declined an invitation to send a team to New Zealand. These proposals will be considered by the management committee of the New Zealand Polo Association early next month. It had been hoped that the visit of the New South Wales team would produce one of the beat seasons ever in the history of polo in New Zeeland.
