Increases In Wages An award for male hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ assistants increases the wages for journeymen and journeywomen by 7s 9d a week The wages of assistants pmploycd as shop assistants are increased by amounts ranging from 3s to 10s a week according to age.
“Casuals may be employed and shall be paid 8s ar hour with a minimum payment of £1 45,” says a clause. The provisions concerning wages are retrospective to November 26 and the rest of the award came into effect on December 19. It includes an unqualified preference ctause.
A memorandum says the award including the provisions relating to wages incorporates the terms of settlement arrived ait by the parties in conciliation. “The rates of remuneration prescribed by tins award are not to be increased by the application of the provisions of the Court’s general order of July 4. 1962,” says the memorandum.
