CENTENNIAL OF CARDENS
First Book Given To Mayor The first copy of “A Garden Century,” the history of the Botanic Gardens, which will be 100 years old early next W was given to the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) yesterday by the chairman of the City Council's reserves committee (Or. p. J. Skellerup). Copies of the book, which has 182 pages, 16 of them colour prints, and contains o, black and white photographs. wall be placed on sale this week. Three thousand copies have been printed for the first edition.
When the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh visit the gardens during the Royal tour early next year it is to present Her Majesty with a copy of the DOOK. When he handed the first copy to the Mayor, Cr. SkelJcnip paid a special tribute to the editors, Messrs M. J. Barnett, a former director of reserves; H. G. Gilpin, the present director, and L. J Metcalf, the assistant curator o the gardens.
