Inaccurate Reports On Vatican Council Work

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, Dec. 17. Many newspaper reports about clashes of opinion at the Vatican Council were so inaccurate as to be laughable, the auxiliary Caitholic Bishop of Auckland (the Most Rev R. J. Delargey) said today. “From the first day there was an almost overwhelming unanimity of opinion," said Bishop Delargey, who returned from the council at the week-end. 'There is no problem in what we want to say; it is how to say ft. We are trying to state what we already know and believe in a more contemporary and compelling way.” Bishop Delargey said he had been most impressed by the relations with the nonCatholic observers at the council, which were of increasing understanding and great cordiality.

‘‘ln meeting them personally there was an atmosphere of friendly dialogue,” he said. “We all agreed that the first thing to do was to define our respective positions, no matter how different they may be.” Bishop Delargey will return to Rome next September, when the general session of the council will resume.
