Fresh Talks Ordered (N.Z.P. A .-Reuter —Copyright) NEW YORK, Dec. 17. Federal mediators ordered fresh talks between striking compositors and the publishers of nine New York daily newspapers for tomorrow in an effort to end a strike which has left nearly six million New Yorkers without their papers for more than a week. The talks broke off last Wednesday after both sides were hopelessly deadlocked. This week-end the compositors met in closed session and afterwards reported their position was unchanged. They went on strike at four erf the city’s nine papers on December 8 after the failure of negotiations on a new contract covering wages and other work conditions. Under a publishers’ agreement, the other five papers also closed down and 20.000 craft and editorial employees were left without work. The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service has ordered both sides to resume the talks tomorrow in an effort to find some common ground between the compositors’ demand for an extra 19 dollars a week, and the publishers’ offer of eight dollars a week.
