CHRISTMAS PARTIES
A display of toys and scrapbooks at a Christmas party held recently by the Riccarton Townswomen’s Guild was later sent to the New Zealand Leper Trust Board. The gifts had been made by Mesdames F. Westgarth and I. W Duns Guests were welcomed to the party by Mrs V. Brundall They included Mr C G Crawford and Mrs Crawford, who is a member of the Dominion executive: Mrs S. H Shellock, area secretary; Mrs J M. Steinmetz, area treasurer; and members of 17 sister guilds. A programme of entertainment included two items by the guild choir, under the leadership of Mrs W. Heinz, as well as carol singing. “Hapl” Club.-Mrs G. D. Ballantyne was Father Christmas at the first Christmas party of the Riccarton Senior Citizens* “Hapi” Club in the Riccarton Town Hall More than 200 attended. Hie programme included a short play presented by members of the Salvation Army The Christmas tree and floral decorations were prepared by local Rotary Club members The closing ceremony was taken by Major T McKenzie, of the Salvation Army Spec-ially-invited guests included Mrs D J Wales and Mr H Larcombe, vice-president and treasurer respectively of the Christchurch Aged People's Welfare Council, and the Mayor of Riccarton (Mr E J Bradshaw) and Mrs Bradshaw Mr Bradshaw and the president (Mr W. Lattimore) spoke briefly. Phillipstown Guild. —Members of the Phillipstown Townswomen’s Guild took gifts to their Christinas party for inmates of the Jubilee Home. Mrs G. Mardon welcomed members and friends, including Mrs G. H. Smith, Dominion secretary of the New Zealand federation, and Mrs S. H. Shellock and Mrs J. M. Steinmetz, of the Christchurch area federation who were specially-invited guests. A Christmas cake, made by Mrs L. No vis and iced by Mrs R Bradford, was cut by Mrs Mardon The en-
tertainment programme included carol singing, pianoforte solos, humorous recitations. a sketch and banjo, accordion, and guitar items.
R.S.A. Women's Section.— The Mayoress (Mrs G. Maning), representatives of sister sections, and artists who had entertained during the year were specially-invited guests at the Christmas party of the women’s section of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association, held recently in the Jellicoe Hall. Mrs W. E. Olds presented the programme, which included songs by Mesdames Linda Haase and Lee Price and Messrs P. Caithness and G. Wyberg, and violin solos by Romola Griffiths. Mrs Olds was the accompanist. Old Linen Needed.—The North Canterbury centre of the Red Cross Society is in urgent need of dean old linen. Parcels of linen are distributed regularly to individuals and institutions for dressings and similar needs. Mrs R. I. Brake, president of the centre, said yesterday that she would be glad to receive worn-out towels, sheets, and pillow-cases, which could be delivered to the headquarters at the Lady Wigram Hall in Cashel street.
Nurse Maude Christmas Party.—The Lyttelton branch of the Nurse Maude Association held its annual Christmas party recently, and visitors, including several patients of the District Nurse (Mrs M Cheyne), were welcomed by the president (Mrs H. G. Banfleld). and received posies from Mrs R K. Duckworth Satisfaction was expressed by Mrs Cheyne that the branch had obtained home aids.
