Clara Petacci Remembered
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter) COMO (Italy) By a rusty iron gateway in the village of Messegra, not far from here, a simple white cross bearing the name of Clara Petacci, Mussolini's mistress, has just been erected. It was here she was killed, together with Mussolini, 17 years ago. On the stone wall behind the cross an unkown hand had previously marked the spot by painting a red flower. Nothing marks the other side of the gateway where Mussolini fell. Villagers say local neo-Fascists have been trying to erect a memorial to the dictator, but the authorities have so far forbidden it.
