Women's Cricket TWO UNBEATEN CENTURIES

Unbeaten centuries by the Beckenham opening batsmen. E. Overend and J. Lowe, and an 82 not out by P. Blackler (St. Albans II) were the outstanding performances in the women’s cricket competition on Saturday.

Beckenham beat St. Albans I, Technical beat St. Albans 111 and St. Albans II beat Mai Moa, all on the first innings. Technical v. St. Albans 111

Technical batted first and was dismissed for 74. The top scorer was again the consistent P. Moore with 22. J. Goddard scored 16, O Williams 15 and R. Stothers 11. For St. Albans, L. McKinnon took three for 27. H. Steere two for 22, C. Dall ard two for 8, and K. Pyatt two for 13.

St. Albans made only 33. M. Alabaster (17) being the only bat to reach double figures. J. Goddard, five for six, and O. Williams, four for seven, caused the collapse. Technical batted again and declared at 51 without loss (P. Moore 31 not out and J. Goddard 20 not out). At stumps St. Albans was two for 60. with H. Steere batting well for 36 and K. Pyatt 16. P. Moore took two for six. Technical won on the first innings. St. Albans 1. v. Beckenham Beckenham dismissed St. Albans I for 117, J. Wilson making 34, L. Duke 25, B. Payne 15, J. Dickinson 14, and P. Jarvis 11. J. Lowe four for 43, L. Haves three for 51 and E. Overend two for 16 shared the wickets for Beckenham. The Beckenham openers started briskly. E. Overend’s century was one of spirit and good stroke play, while J. Lowe, although not a stroke player like her partner, hit hard and often, fully deserving her century. Both players were not out at stumps with the score at 243 for no wicket. Overend on 121 and Lowe 101. Beckenham won on the first innings. St. Albans 11 v. Mai Moa Against the steady Mai Moa attack and with the early dismissal of J. Stead for three, St. Albans started badly. However, G. Franklin (13) and J. Watson with a fine innings of 40, put the side in a better position. Then P. Blackler flayed the Mai Moa bowling for an unbeaten 82 and the young N. Douglas made 13. St. Albans declared at 179 for seven wickets. Bowling honours were shared by J. Edmonds two for 44, M. Lawson two for 28 and N. Motz two for 40. Mai Moa was never on top of the bowling and was dismissed for 69. The most impressive batsmen were M. Lawson (18) and J. Paget (32). P. Blackler took six for 27, J. Watson tw’o for 25 and M. Skelton two for 15. St. Albans gained a first innings win.
