DIED AFTER RESCUE
Widow Saved From Blaze (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. December 13 An elderly woman who was rescued from a smoke-filled bedroom by firemen, died three hours later in hospital. She was: Mrs E. Bernech. aged 80, a widow, of Harbour View road. Northland. Two firemen found her collapsed on the floor of her burning home shortly before 11 a.m. They had to break down a locked door to get into the house. A near-blind diabetic with a weak heart, she was admitted to the Wellington Hospital suffering from severe shock and a burned ankle. She died at 2.45 p.m.
