“Awful” Cocktail Parties

Miss Tania Verstak impressed her audience at the fashion parade last evening with her charm and wit. A story she told against herself concerned an incident in an American city after she had been “shown the town" by the Australian consul. “It was a lovely evening.” she told her host. “I wish we could do it more often instead of attending these awful cocktail parties—you meet thousands of people and never know what to say.” Miss Verstak was to attend a cocktail party the following evening. After a little hesitation, the consul said: "Well, thank you. dear—l'm putting it on for you.”
