CHILDREN'S HOMES
Cheques Given To Churches The social service branches of the Methodist. Presbyterian. atrud Anglican church in Christchurch have each received £l9OO tor their children’s homes as a result of the Combined Children's Home street, house, and postal appeal and trust grants. At a ceremony in the grounds of the South Island Methodist Children s Home, Harewood road, yesterday morning, the chairman of the appeal’s trust board (Mr L. G. K. Steven) presented cheques to representatives of the three churches. The former Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand (the Rt. Rev. S. C. Francis), the chairman of the North Canterbury Methodist District Synod (the Rev H. G. Brown) and the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A K. Warren) each replied briefly. All three said that the rising population necessitated continued maintenance of children's homes, in spite of the increasing rate of adoption of children in foster homes in the city. Mr Steven paid a special tribute to the work of the Presbyterian Social Service Association. Without its organisation and experience, he said, the appeal would not have been possible. Others who assisted in the board's August and October appeals were members of the Baptist, Congregational, and Chunch of Christ denominations in the city.
To avoid disappointment, it would be wise to order your Christmas Cake and Puddings without delay (early next week ait the latest), from ETHNE'S CAKE SH >P, 125 Cashel street.—Advt.
