Athletics PAT BOOT SHIELD

Strong Entrv From Otago Individual performances will be a secondary consideration at Saturday’s athletic meeting at Rugby Park, when clubs will be competing for the Pat Boo’. Shield Held in memory of the late Pat Boot, one of New Zealand’s greatest middle distance runners, the meeting emphasises relays and teams’ events. The shield holder, Technical, has dominated the contest with 12 wins since 1949. Renewed interest appears to be developing amongst clubs outside of Christchurch. Open to all South Island clubs, the meeting has attracted a remarkable entry of 40 from the North Otago club, who will be represented in every event. Technical will still have the largest team with 55 competitors. Although another Otago club, St. Kilda, had earlier indicated it would be challenging, the transfer of some of its leading members has resulted in it declining the invitation.
