Two Centuries Scored After a day of exciting cricket, Banks Peninsula staved off defeat and gained a first innings win over Hurunui in a subassociation shield first round match at Akaroa yesterday. Hurunui. 59 runs behind on the first innings attacked zestfully yesterday and runs came quickly. T. McGowan, an opening batsman, made a forceful 105 and the side declared at 321 for seven wickets. Peninsula was left 210 minutes in which to score 261 runs for victory, but had to change its plans after losing five wickets for 38. The side was rescued from its difficulties by D. Masefield. who batted almost three hours for an unbeaten 119 He shared a good stand with P. Prendergast and the last two men. R. Small and C.
