SHIMMING Seagar Beats Two Games Medallists

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, Decemlier 13. A. H. Seagar, the Auckland 440 yards medley swimmer, who disappointed by finishing fifth in the Empire Games, defeated two of the men who won medals at Perth at a swimming carnival in Auckland tonight, but did not win the race.

The swimmers Seagar beat were A. Alexander (Australia). who won the gold, and J. G. Kelso (Canada), who won the bronze, but he was defeated by J. A. Gilchrist, a 17-year-old Canadian, who did not swim the medley at Perth. Seagar was beaten by less than a yard. If D. F. Gerrard had managed a longer dive off the starting blocks he might have defeated the Canadian Empire Games medallist, A. Meinhart. in a thrilling 110 yards butterfly race. Meinhart beat Gerrard by two feet—an advantage his dive had given him—and both swimmers recorded their personal best times of 62.2. R. W. D. Pound, the 20-year-old Canadian gold medallist, swam the fastest 110 yards freestyle ever recorded in New Zealand. His time was 56.8 sec. New Zealand’s silver medallist Miss V.
