SWIMMER DROWNED
Workman At Benmore (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Dec. 13. A man who went for a lunch-time swim to beat the heat, was drowned in a backwater of the Oreti river, near Benmore, about 12.15 this afternoon. He was John Alexander Wilson, aged 35, of 242 Pomona street, Invercargill, a married man with three children. He w-as employed by a contractor at Benmore. He went for a swim in a quiet pert of the Oreti, about seven feet deep, with two workmates. When he was seen in difficulties, one of the other men went to his aid but also had trouble. The third man then dived in, but Mr Wilson had disappeared. Subsequently he was brought to the bank, but efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
