PURE WATER SUPPLY
Army To Buy Four Units (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. The Army is to buy four water purification sets to provide pure drinking water for New Zealand troops, it was announced today. Each set is capable of producing 1000 gallons of pure drinking water an hour. They are for use by the Royal New Zealand Engineers. The Minister of Defence 'Mr Eyre) said today that each set was mounted on a special trailer tow’ed by a utility vehicle. Each set was in three units and a unit could be carried by two soldiers. The trailers would carry no water, and would rely on water carried by tankers or from natural sources. Mr Eyre said water in parts of New Zealand and in much of South-east Asia was fouled and carried disease. The new equipment would ensure troops would be protected from disease caused by having to drink or wash in impure water.
