OLD FOLKS’ PARTY
About 150 Attend A young Malayan Colombo Plan student of the University of Canterbury decorated a Christmas tree for toe Avonside - Richmond - Shirley Old Folks’ Friendly Club Christmas party, held recently in toe Holy Trinity Church Hall About 150 attended. Two foundation members of the club, who were married about a fortnight ago. cut the Christmas cake. They are Mr and Mrs H. G'. Batchelor. residents of Churchill Courts. Highlights of toe function were the distribution of gifts by Father Christmas, and of saucer posies made by members of toe 17to and 33rd Companies of toe Christchurch Girls’ Life Brigade. Presentations were made to those who had worked for toe club during toe year. Among the specially-invited guests were the Mayor (Mr G. Manning!, the chairman of the Christchurch Aged People’s Welfare Council (Dr. H. R. Donald), and Mr H. J. Walker, M P., who extended toeir best wishes to the club and congratulated it on its growth. Other specially - invited guests were Mrs Donald, Mrs Walker, Mrs M. E. Laurie, secretary of the Aged People's Welfare Council. Mr H. Larcom.be. treasurer. Mrs H. A play was presented by toe evening branch of toe Avonside Mothers’ Union. The Shirley League of Mothers presented a series of Christmas tableaux and carols Mr P. Caithness sang, end Mrs A. Bamford sang and recited.
Mrs H. C. L. Pruden, president of the club, presided end welcomed guests.
