Queen Appoints New Trainer
(Special Crspdt. N.ZJ>JI.) LONDON, December 12. The Queen has appointed P. Hasting-Bass, aged 42, to train some of her horses next season. Her present trainers are C. Boyd Rochfort and N. Murless. As Rochfort is 75, racing writers presume that his long and successful period as chief Royal trainer must be drawing to a close and that Hastings-Bass will succeed him. Hastings-Bass has been a trainer for nine years. During that time he has saddled the winners of the Cambridgeshire, the Stewards’ Cup, the King Edward the Seventh Stakes, and the Coronation Stakes at Ascot. In the last few years he has trained winners of between 26 and 45 races each season. He began his latest season with 51 horses in his stable.
