Inquiries At Levin
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 12. There was a long inquiry at Levin today after the finish of the Lake Handicap, for two-year-olds. The race was won by Monetary by a nose from Anntic. In the last furlong Monetary hung out but did not appear to touch Anntic. Two races later it was announced that there would be no alteration in the judge’s placing. No official statement from the judicial committee was available. Soon after the start of the Kawiu Trial Josie Jean (A. C. Messervy) was squeezed by Shanty Town (L. N. McCutcheon). After hearing the riders concerned, the judicial committee took no action against McCutcheon but warned him to be more careful, A furlong farther on Closing Time (M. O’Connor), Next Door (W. K. Searle), and Dream Time (N. W. Belsham) were caused to lose ground. The evidence failed to establish that any particular rider was blameworthy. After the Weraroa Handicap, C. A. Bowry was fined £5 for failing to weigh in on Vogel Bloem, which finished fifth.
