VOLUNTEER BRIGADES
Levin Board In Favour (N.Z. Press Association) LEVIN, Dec. 12. The longer Levin's Fire Brigade stays voluntary the better, the chairman of the Levin Fire Board (Mr E. W. Wise) told firemen last night. “As soon as you get paid firemen.” he said, “you get a highly-paid union secretary, and the union secretary has to earn his money." Mr Wise was talking at an end-of-year party held by the board for the town’s firemen. “The union secretaries create unrest that does not exist here,” he said. “We are much happier as a volunteer brigade."
