Swimming PAN-PACIFIC TITLES

New Event Planned

IV 2. PA. .-Reuter—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Dec. 5.

The Amateur Swimming Union of Australia hopes to introduce Pan-Pacific swimming championships in the near future. Discussions have already been held on this subject by officials and will be continued at the union’s annual conference in Perth in February. The president of the A.S.U. (Mr H. B. Ive) said last night that Australia. America and Japan would probably be the three participating nations in the initial stages of any such championships. “But. we also want all other Pacific nations to join in if the meeting becomes a reality," he said. At the present time, Australia, America, and Japan engage in regular matches at least once a year. The move is part of a big campaign to step up Australia’s participation in internationrl swimming.
