TI RANGIORA For Festive
A varied programme of carnival activities will begin in Ranglora tomorrow, when the town's annual Festivity Week win begin. Many visitors come to Rangiora during the week, particularly on the two Friday evenings when many persons combine their shopping with the other entertainments.
The programme includes a lucky spot competition, with £lO first prize, tomorrow evening and a grand display of fireworks the following Friday evening.
To add to the festive atmosphere during the lata night shopping on the two Friday evenings, bands will parade through the business area. Tomorrow evening the music will be provided by the Rangiora Brass Band and on the following Friday the North Canterbury Highland Pipe Band will take its turn.
Many prizes and gifts are made available by the businessmen for the week’s entertainment, including such features as the swimming carnival. While the association sponsors the activities, the organisations arranging the events retain any profits. LUCKY SPOT The first event of the week’s programme will be the Lucky Spot decided in the main shopping area after the closing of shops tomorrow night. This carries a main prize of £lO and nine other prizes are also given away. Shortly after the closing of the shops, a signal will be given for persons to remain stationary. Ten
many of the shoppers and the Town Hall is sold out for both nights of the businessmen’s annual concert on Monday and Tuesday, soon after bookings open. A number of guest artists will appear also, including a former member of the association, Mr Pat Smyth, who has had considerable experience both as an actor and producer. Others include Miss Neva Eder and a group from the Rangiora High School. An additional attraction will be the presentation of gifts on each night of the concert to 10 lucky patrons.

the winner of fastest time. Runners beating 2hr 2min will qualify for an A grade certificate, and those being 2hr 20m in for a B grade. The field will start near Bealey avenue at 6 p.m. and the leading runners are expected to finish at the Rangiora Post Office about 7.50 p.m. FATHER CHRISTMAS Despite his venerable appearance, Father Christmas is keeping up with the changing trends of the modern world. Having forsaken his traditional sledge and reindeer, he will descend on the town in his modern “space ship” next Thursday afternoon.
