DELAYS TO FLIGHTS

Wellington Closed

Most air schedules in and out of Christchurch were delayed by up to an hour yesterday after Wellington Airport had been closed all the morning because of bad weather declared marginal tor landings about 12.34 pm. but the delays could not be made up during the rest of the day, although the last aircraft to arrive at Christchurch from Wellington landed on time just before 8 p.m. Passengers leaving Wellington travelled by road to Palmerston North and Paraparaiumu, and this was the maiin cause of the delay This in turn delayed transhipment ait Christchurch tor Dunedin and Timara. Flights from Christchurch to Wellington had to lend at either Palmerston North ar Paraparaumu until Wellington was declared marginal tor landings. One Viscount flight from Christchurch was held up when an aircraft had to be called into service at short notice and was delayed tor an hour while a maiinitenance check was com-

pleted. Christchurch Airport remained open until 730 p.m. when it was declared marginal. However, the last flight landed without difficulty and all services were completed. Tauranga airport was closed yesterday tor the third successive day because of flooding. and DC3’s were diverted to Hamilton. Gisborne and Napier airports were closed to landlings yesterday momimig.
