American Christmas cherries from Diamond Harbour sold at up to Is 6d a pound. Visit Postponed A visit to Double Hill, a Mid-Canterbury high country run, by members of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, arranged for December 11 has been postponed. It will probably be held in February. Pupil’s Request A request by Ivy Murdoch, a Standard 111 pupil at Salisbury School, South Canterbury, to have Talbots road tar-sealed because of the dust niusance "melted the hearts” of councillors at the monthly meeting of the Levels County Council yesterday. The council decided to carry out an inspection of the road. The letter, approved by the headmaster (Mr J. H. Smith) said that a lot of traffic used the road. Arneb Diverted i The United States naval I supply vessel Arneb, which I was due at Lyttelton from Davisville, United States, on Saturday, has been diverted to Wellington, where it is due tomorrow. At Wellington the Arneb will unload two sets of three-bladed propellers ready for the icebreaker Glacier, which is going to Wellington from Antarctica with damaged screws. rhe Arneb, which will now arrive at Lyttelton late on Sunday evening from Wellington will unload cargo and then load for McMurdo. She is expected to go south about December 12 Christmas Cards The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) and Mrs Holyoake have chosen for their Christmas card this year a scene at Arthur’s Point, not far from Queenstown. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) has chosen a view of the snow-covered slopes of Mount Cook for his greeting card. —(P.A.) Grain Pests An officer of the Department of Agriculture Mr G. A. H. Helson, who is an entomologist, is to devote part of his time to pests of stored grain and to advisory work in this field, according to a letter received by the Wheat Research Committee yesterday from the fields superintendent of the department -in Christchurch.
