Third Wool Sale

A BIG proportion of the wool entered for the third Christchurch wool sale which will begin in the Repertory Theatre at 8 a.m. on Monday is drawn from the province and Marlborough. A representative of one of the Christchurch wool brokers commented this week that the clip was a very good one from a growers' point of view on account of the bulk and weight of wool forward. The case was quoted of one grower whose sheep this season have clipped about 21b more wool than normal. Halfbred and Corriedale wools from North Canterbury and Marlborough are strongly represented in the offering and following the favourable season in Marlborough wool from this area is much improved and one store reports that a good deal of it is up half a grade. In the main halfbred and crossbred ewe dips are described as being of good average quality with only a sprinkling of choice clips. The outlook for fine wools is fairly favourable with recent reports from Australia indicating a further slight strengthening of the market. Again there is a fair representation of hogget wools and these are well grown and of

very good length with a little colour and again some choice offerings. Merino wool is catalogued and is also well grown and of good colour, but some of it is showing the effects of weather and Marlborough wools are heavy in condition.

Clips coming into the stores in the last ' two or three weeks have been beginning to show the marks of the recent unsettled and wet weather in the form of some colour, but almost invariably wools are well grown. Oddments are generally a good lot, but again there is a little colour and they are carrying condition. There is a little West Coast wool forward and it is showing the marks of the very wet season that has been experienced there. There is also a small consignment from the Chatham Islands. The offering for the sale comprises 33,808 bales in 3025 lots compared with 33,138 bales at the same sale last year.

Details of catalogues In order of sale are: National Mortgage and Agency Company of N.Z., Ltd., 7061 bales; Dalgety and NX. Loan. Ltd., 11,SSI bales: New Zealand Farmers’ Cooperative Association of Canterbury. Ltd., SOIS bales: Pyne. Gould, Guinnees Ltd., »78 bales.
