Errors In Papers
(NX. Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 27. There was no evidence so far that students misunderstood questions or that their work had been affected by the wording of them in the School Certificate papers, the Minister of Education (Mr Tennent) said in Parliament today. Mr A. H. Nordm ever (Opposition, Island Bay) had asked him: “(1) To what extent were the many errors in this year’s School Certificate examination papers due to inexperience on the part of those responsible or to failure in supervision and checking? ‘‘(2) .What steps does the Minister propose to take to ensure that candidates will not be penalised because of these errors? ‘‘(3) Will effective action be taken to prevent a repetition of such errors?” Mr Tennent said there had been a few errors, but there was no question of inexperi-
ence on the part of the chief examiners. It was standard practice to make allowances for errors and ambiguities.
