MARKET IN THAILAND
Pap er Pulp And Carpet Wools (NZ. Press Association) PALM. NORTH, Nov. 26. “New Zealand produce could fit into Thailand's expanding economy very well. For one thing there is a need for paper pulp in Thailand and there could be a market for carpet wools too,” said Mr Bunchana Atthkor, director of the Thailand Technical and Economical Co-operation Department, in an interview at Massey College today. Mr Bunchana is in New Zealand on a 10-day visit to plan university economic courses for Thai students.
“We have made a lot of industrial and economic advances in Thailand recently. We have glass, pharmaceutical. textile and paper industries,” he said. Imported raw materials were required for the paper, textile and pharmaceutical factories, but Thailand had its own source of glass sand. “From what I have read of New Zealand’s paper pulp industry, there should be enough to export on a reasonably large scale. Thailand's better-class homes are going in for more carpets now, and I think there should be a small market for carpet wools, but the climate is too hot for wool for clothing. “If you wanted to export mutton to Thailand, you would have to teach us how to cook it first, and even then I do not think there would be a very big market for it. Thai people just do not like it "There is a big future in Thailand tor your milk products—particularly condensed milk. This I* very popular;" he said. “Thais are not big butter eaters and they do not like cheese. No, it is the milk that will do well in our country.” Mr Bunchana said although he had only been in New Zealand a short time he had been very impressed with New Zealand’s approach to economic and agricultural problems.
