WOOL SUITS AND COATS
Fashion Parade At Barracks A high-fashion parade of all-wool suits and coats for women, suits and sportswear for men was held in association with the CanterburyWestland finals of the shearing and wool-handling contest at King Edward Barracks on Saturday. The garments, which will be on the market for next autumn and winter, came from Beath and Company and the parade was compered by the firm’s fashion coordinator (Mrs Peg. Johnston). Made in New Zealand by two leading Christchurch manufacturers, one Auckland manufacturer, and by the only fashion house which exports to Australia, the women’s suits and coats were presented in hand-woven Irish tweed, double knit jersey and velour; in tweeds and worsteds for the menswear.
Outstanding In the collection was a cream and coffeeflecked hand-woven Irish tweed suit cut on semi-fltting lines which would be right for town or country wear. It had a big matching greatcoat with a modified storm collar and unusual seaming detail from the sleeves to the pockets. The ensemble was shown with a hat matching exactly the flecked tonings of the outfit.
