Mr Carruthers w* widely known throughout New Zealand and AuatrnUa for his comprehensive knowledge of in Scottend he arrived to New Zeeland m 1905 and became a stud ■room at Outram. He married Mtes Jemima KampeheU in 1912 and returned to Scotland but came back to New Zeeiond in 1914 and bought a property of 1200 acres at Ngapun* which he named "Nethertown.” He imported Clydeedale stallions and mores from Scotland for breeding purposes. Mr Carruthers was * prominent exhibitor st ail msgor shows, and was ti>e firet owner to win both the mate and female horse championship at the Royal Show at Ohrieticbiunch in 1925. He exhibited fat stock at thds show tor 20 years and won the championship 12 tames.
