Mackay Hits 105 Against M.C.C.

Press Association —Copvripht) BRISBANE, November 25. Queensland’s 37-year-old captain, K. Mackay, hit an aggressive unbeaten 105 against the M.C.C. touring team at the Brisbane Cricket Ground yesterday.

McKay’s first four runs brought his total in first-class cricket to 10,000.

Queensland reached a formidable 433 for seven wickets in 487 minutes before Mackay declared the innings closed. The M.C.C. opening batsmen, P. H. Parfitt and D. S. Sheppard, survived a torrid speed burst from W. Hall to reach 29 without the loss of a wicket at stumps. Mackay got his unbeaten century in only 170 minutes and hit 12 boundaries. Sparkling Innings It was a sparkling innings, full of crisp cover drives and contrasted with some dreary early batting in which S. Trimble had reached a laborious 95. G. Bizzell shared a stand of 108 with Trimble—Queens-

land’s first fourth-wicket century partnership against an English touring side. W. Grout, the Australian test wicket-keeper, provided a final burst of fireworks with two sixes and seven boundaries in a furious innings of 56 made in only 38 minutes. However, Grout marred a fine day’s work when he dropped a catch from Parfitt off Hall’s bowling near the end of the day. The English bowling looked threadbare throughout the day and J. D. F. Larter, who captured the wickets of P. Burge and Bizzell, ran into more no-ball trouble. The M.C.C. was handi-

capped by the absence of the off-spin bowler, D. A. Allen, after the luncheon adjournment. Suffering from a stomach complaint, Allen did not take the field in the afternoon.
