BATTLE FOR YEMEN

Resurgence By Royalists

tN.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, November 19.

Only Egyptian military support now guarantees the survival of the Republican regime in Yemen, according to the Aden correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph.”

The swing of tribal allegiance to the Royalist cause had grown so much that the deposed Imam would probably have a good chance of recapturing Saana, the capital, and re-establishing his rule there if Egyptian troops were withdrawn. The correspondent said he had been “deeply impressed” by the resurgence of Royalist hopes during the last two or three weeks.

“A month ago I was persuaded that the revolution had, in effect, succeeded. Now it seems to be the battle is a long way from over,” he said.

Egypt was now strengthening its military commitment in Yemen in response to an urgent request from President Nasser’s personal representative in Yemen, Colonel Anwar Sadaat.

Within a few days, Egypt would have about 20,000 troops committed in Yemen as well as MIG fighters on airfields at Saana, Taiz, and Hodeida and medium Ilyushin bombers, destroyers, frigates and submarines at Hodeida and Mocha, the correspondent said.
