CARS CHECKED FOR GAS

Traces Of Carbon Monoxide (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. Forty-three of 320 cars tested at the Wellington Road Safety Association's carbon monoxide checkpoint on Saturday had measurable traces of the gas in the driving compartment “However, none of these was in the really serious class, although drivers were advised to seek attention to the matter,” said the association’s secretary (Mr R. Williams) today.

The check, believed to have been the first of its type in New Zealand, attracted a steady stream of motorists throughout the morning, but slackened off in the early afternoon. It is hoped to arrange another check next year.
