When joined the leaders at the furlong and won more easily than the official margin of a length would suggest Reprimand made a bold bid to win the race for a second time, taking second place half a length in front of Moon Boy, with a head to Spinster Scott, two lengths to Pohutukawa, which was followed by With You, Danthus Giri and Mighty Hanover. Ballista’s Sprint Dandy Briar, Oreti. Jack Super, Smoke Screen. Adios

Ballista carried on in front to the straight, where Oreti, Garry Logan, Sentimental, Jack Super, Stormlight, Johnny Thunder, and Smoke Screen were prominent. Ballista was not seriously tested over the final 100 yards and won handily by a length. Stormlight made up ground along the inside to take second place from Oreti by half a head, with a length to the fastfinishing Stormont, which was late working clear. Autumn Folly made up ground, but was beaten off, with Garry Logan, King Anjou, Sentimental, Johnny Thunder, and Smoke Screen close up. Back To Form Caimbrae. which had broken hopelessly in his other races at the meeting, made amends with a stylish win in the Hayward Handicap. He was sixth at the end of a furlong and improved to take the lead with six furlongs and a half left. Great Credit showed brilliant speed to go from last and almost join Caimbrae at the halfmile. Great Credit then dropped in behind the pacemaker. Van Rush improved sharply to be or. the outside of Carinbrae racing to the straight, with Great Credit and Garrison Roval close up, ahead of Gold Globe, Lauder Scott, Moose, and Ahumai. Caimbrae had the result in safe keeping in the straight and won handily by two lengths from Great Credit, which was far from disgraced.
