MAYORESS TO OPEN UNIQUE DISPLAY OF DECORATIVE ARRANGEMENTS.
Hay’s Roof Theatrette is today being competely transformed by a band of enthusiastic experts as they assemble some 130 entries in one of the most unusual and spectacular competitions ever held in Christchurch. Something completely new to New Zealand, representing four sections, it is enchantingly different Whether you are captivated by the Christmas table arrangements; new, gay transformations for your hall, the sections’ using candles; or the Christmas theme staged on pedestals; one thing is certain, one visit will lead to another. Today, at 2.30, this Exhibition will be officially opened, and the prizes presented by the Mayoress, Mrs G. Manning. Many entries are reminiscent of old fashioned Christmas carols, while others express restraint in the modern manner. Do look for the lovely hanging arrangement featuring gay plumaged birds perched brilliantly on a grey, snow topped, bough. The stage presents a striking picture with scarlet pointsettias. lillies and frosted foliage splashed against a tranquil background of pure madonna blue.
Take a respite from the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, visit the Roof Theatrette, where you can also have a quick cup of Coffee at the French Cafe. The entries will be exhibited until Friday November 30. and daily demonstrations of table arrangement with a Christmas theme will be given. Mrs R. Elcock, well known Christchurch floral artist, will conduct these demonstrations regularly at 2.15 pm. and 1.15 p.m. with additional sessions each Wednesday, at 2.15 p.m. Admission to the Exhibition is Is for Adults, 6d for children, the net proceeds being donated to the Christchurch Aged Peoples Welfare Council P.B.A. A
