GARDEN FETE

£l3OO Raised By S.C.F.

The Save the Children Fund raised more than £l3OO at a garden party on Saturday towards the purchase of an ambulance for the fund’s team of workers in Korea. The excellent result represented many months of work and planning to make the fete attractive to adults and children, from 10.30 a.m. through the day. The fete was held at “Daresbury,” the home of Mr and Mrs R. G. Kingscote, of Fendalton.

Popular with young visitors were a heated swimming pool, boats for rowing on the Waimairi stream, which flows through the garden, sideshows and a Noddy train. Stalls, which were grouped under trees in the beautiful grounds, sold produce, plants and flowers, cakes and sweets, children’s knitted and fabric garments, novelties, "white elephants” and jewellery.
