ORPHAN CHILDREN ENTERTAINED
On Guy Fawke’s right, men and women of Bumh am camp acted as hosts to the children of three Christchurch orphanages. About 150 children, attended by 14 adults, arrived at the camp in buses. They were met at the entrance by soldiers and members of the New Zealand Women’s Royal Army Corps and each child was presented with a bag of sweets.
After being welcomed by the camp second in command (Major J. Rathbun), the children were taken to an area where a huge bonfire had been prepared. A fireworks display was given and supper was provided.
St Helens Births.—One hundred and twenty-nine babies were born last month at the Christchurch Sit. Helen* Hospital, including three sets of twins. Admissions totalled 153. The figures for October last year were 156 deliveries (including two set* of twins) and 176 admission*.
