WARNING ON JETS

“Take A Good Look” (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 6. A noted aeronautical engineer today warned against rushing to purchase large jet passenger aircraft without taking “a long, hard look at them.”

Mr B. S. Shenstone, president of the Royal Aeronautical Society and chief engineer and a director of British European Airways, said that if the large jets suited an airline's route they were fine. A number of airlines, however, had rushed into buying them without regard to their suitability and they were now in trouble.

"Take a good look at them before you decide which aircraft will best suit your air routes,” he said. Mr Shenstone arrived at Whenuapai this evening to visit branches of the Royal Aeronautical Society. He will have talks with the Director of Civil Aviation (Sir Arthur Nevill) and visit Tasman Empire Airways, Ltd., and National Airways Corporation establishments. He will have a look at the Straits Air Freight Express and spend a day with the Gliding Association in Christchurch.
